“The Power that Made the Body Heals the Body” ~ B.J. Palmer

Did you know your body is innately intelligent and that it has the ability to heal itself? It is true! The power to sustain a perfectly functioning body is yours. You have an impeccably created nervous system that is designed to maintain a state of health, rather than a state of dis-ease. The definition of dark is the absence of light. Similarly, the definition of dis-ease is the absence of health.

How do you achieve this amazing state of euphoria? It does take some work. Chiropractic, acupuncture and nutrition work together synergistically to help you function at a very high level of health. The nervous system starts at the head, specifically the brain, and works from the top down, and from the inside out. When the nervous system has all of its interferences removed, it actually does what it is designed to do: clear the body and establish an instrument of health and rejuvenation within which you can live a fulfilling life. Regular chiropractic care can accomplish this rather effectively. A one-time visit, or even a few visits, may provide temporary relief, but it will not fully correct a lifetime of bodily injury and abuse. If you take the time to invest in yourself and your health on a regular basis, you will see results you have never seen before.

Many professional athletes and athletic teams travel with Doctors of Chiropractic. Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, and Tiger Woods, who recently won the Masters, are two such examples of people utilizing chiropractic care in order to retain their highly functioning athletic bodies. You can ask for an Olympic performance from a body that is subluxated and impinging nervous system flow, but it will not be effective! Likewise, if you are in a subluxated state, maybe you can’t even ask your body to get out of bed in the morning, let alone take care of your diabetes, or your heart disease.  The nervous system controls everything: every bodily function that we think about, and every function we don’t have to think about. They are all controlled by the nervous system; that is why it is imperative to your health to take care of your nervous system.

Many people believe that walking away from an injury means that they are okay. But every time your head comes to an abrupt stop, it has the potential to concuss your brain against your skull; and concussions, no matter how “insignificant”, increase the risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s-like diseases by 44%. Did you know it is even possible to sustain a concussion by landing really hard on your bottom? That’s right! I grew up showing horses; therefore I came off horses a lot. I got kicked, stomped on and run over. Thankfully, I was blessed with a Chiropractor for a dad, who always took care of my brother and I right away. It only takes 7-10 days for osteoarthritis to settle in to a damaged joint and as little as a 5 mile-an-hour bump can cause severe whiplash or kill a fetus in utero. Just because you walk away doesn’t mean you are not injured; it just means your adrenaline worked and you will be ok for a while, until the injury catches up with you.

So how does acupuncture factor into this? Acupuncture works with the energetic system of the body and goes hand in hand with chiropractic care. Acupuncture has been around for over 5000 years and actually Chinese Medicine doctors were performing chiropractic alignments long before anyone in the United States knew what they were. Dr. D.D. Palmer, considered the founder of Chiropractic, actually visited China and brought their techniques back with him to the United States. Now there are thousands of Chiropractic doctors around the world, thanks to the awesome vision of D.D. Palmer.

If you can get the nervous system and the energetic system working together, there isn’t anything more powerful than your own body’s ability to heal itself.  To quote B.J. Palmer, son of D.D. Palmer, “The power that made the body heals the body.” As energy flows through the body, you can think of it like a train station. The Meridians, or energy channels, that run literally from head to toe, are like the train tracks. As long as they are connected, the trains can all get through to the main power source, the brain.  But if one of those tracks gets separated, the energy can no longer flow like it is supposed to, and it effectively gets “stuck”. Well basically, it is the acupuncturist’s job to connect the dots and get that track fixed so the energy can flow back to the power source again.

Another part of both Chinese medicine and chiropractic care is nutrition. It is imperative to address problems from the cellular level as well. If you do not have healthy cells in your body, how can you possibly have a healthy body?  You cannot. It is literally impossible. Many people believe they are eating a healthy diet when in fact, they are not eating well at all. There are many misnomers in our society that are based on false information. It is important to understand how to support your body in a healthful manner. A few simple adjustments can have a big impact. Eliminate toxic artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, sucralose, saccharine, splenda, etc. Eliminate genetically modified foods, such as corn, soy and most grains. Get a lot of good fats in your diet such as avocado, olive oil and coconut oil. The brain is made of cholesterol and it has to have good fats in order to properly function. Do you want to guess why Alzheimer’s is on the rise among people who are on cholesterol lowering drugs? Omega 3 and D3 are also very important for brain health.

There is so much more to know about our amazing, wonderfully and perfectly made bodies! A healthy, long, high-quality life is available to you when you invest in your health. May your life be blessed and full of healthy, supportive decisions.
